An outdated website is like an old family photo.

You know when you look at an old picture of yourself, and you say:
- “What am I wearing!?”
- “Why is my hair so big?”
- “What was I thinking?”
Just like an old 80’s hairstyle, get rid of that old website design for good!

As can be seen from the above photo, styles are always changing. Whether it’s hair, fashion, home decor, or our waistlines; change is inevitable.
Similarly, business and technology change every day. Customer’s needs and demands are always changing. Need I say more?
While nobody will ever be perfect,
we can always strive to be our best!
Websites Are Never Completed
By and large, sites not updated in a few years can quickly look dated. Not to mention how they may appear to millennials. Ok, I mentioned them.
Think of websites as a living breathing entity that grows along with you on your business journey. Don’t let the old website design damage the viable business you are today.
In the long run, being up-to-date in your online presence shows customers that you:
- Care.
- Are with-it.
- Create products and services by utilizing the newest information and methods.
- Understand customers’ needs and can provide them with the best experience.
Easy Ways to Update Your Online Presence
All things considered, perhaps an entire rebuild of your website is not needed. Instead, focus on the changes you quickly can make:
- Constantly update your content. On a weekly basis, review the text on one page. Small tweaks in your content can make a difference.
- Review your product and service offerings. I once spoke to a landscaper about lawn mower repair because it was on his website as a service. He looked at me like I was crazy-lady-pantyhose. I proceeded to show him his site on my phone, and he said: “Oh yeah, I thought about doing that a few years ago. I should change that.” Yes. Yes, you should.
- Start a blog or write new blog posts. Please don’t let your last post be two-years-old. The visitor may think you are no longer in business. At minimum update your blog monthly.
- Update your photos. Remove overused stock photos like these: (yes, that is Vince Vaughn promoting a movie by doing office-y things. The movie Unfinished Business was released in 2015.)
